About Fractures

Fractures came about as a part of our Screen Production Techniques C topic at Flinders University. The brief was to create short films in groups following individual pitches from the class. Paige Sowter proposed a film about dance and beautiful choreography as these are great passions of hers. Allie Cooper proposed a film comparing the flow of watercolour paints and water-flow throughout nature. The four of us came together and thought of a minimalistic film of two dancers with paint being used to smear on them and create the story of two people coming together.

Later the film transitioned into our group pitch, a dramatic dance film telling the story of a breakup through the girls eyes as she battles through the failure of the relationship. Holi Powder was suggested to enhance the raw emotion of the dance choreography. Originally there were to be two dancers, one in blue powder and the other in red, dancing around each other until they collided to create an explosion of purple.

Shortly before filming, we were unable to find enough available dancers and from there it transitioned into a film of self exploration, frustration, anger and letting go. Holi powder has still been used to show the element of breaking free. This has been an incredible project to work on and we had so much fun during the creation of this powerful film. We hope you enjoy it.
